Magdalena married at age 18 and for the next three years she and her husband lived with family since they could not afford to live on their own. “Through it all,” Magdalena recalls, “I always dreamt that one day we would have our own home and land so that we could raise cattle, hens, pigs and other animals.” At the time, she had little idea how to make her dreams a reality. After joining the Agros community of El Milagro, in El Salvador, Magdalena realized that with hard work and a little faith she could save enough to repay a loan for animals. Within a very short period of time the single loan she took out enabled her to purchase her first cow. She quickly grew this first purchase into a thriving business of five milk cows, a pig, and dozens of chickens, providing enough money to meet all of her children’s needs.
