Who is Agros?
We are a Seattle-based, non-profit organization that works with poor, landless farmers in Central America and Mexico. Agros extends loans to purchase farmland and partners with farmers in applying sustainable agricultural practices, all in the goal of enabling these families to create, develop, and eventually own their own sustainable village.

What is an Alternative Gift?
Put simply, an "alternative" gift is a unique and impactful way of giving gifts to friends, loved ones, colleagues, or really -- anyone! Instead of buying another book, CD, tie, or scarf for a loved one who "has everything" -- you can instead give in his or her name a gift that will directly contribute to helping families in Central America and Mexico move out of crushing poverty and towards a new life of hope and empowerment.
How does this work?
It's simple! You purchase a gift for a friend or loved one, your money is used by Agros to directly alleviate poverty for families in Central America and Mexico, and your friend or loved one is notified of the gift you made in their honor.
How will my gift be used?
Every item described in this Gift Catalog represents an item that is budgeted for, purchased, and used in village development projects throughout Central America and Mexico. However, Agros does not track individual gifts from purchase to distribution because it would require valuable resources that we believe should be put to work in the villages instead. Gifts made for land go to designated funds for land purchase and credit fund operations. All other gift purchases from this catalog are combined together and used to help fund the village development process for families. Your gift is tax deductible, supports the entire mission of Agros, and will be used to help families move from poverty to a sustainable life of hope!
How will my friends and/or loved ones be notified about the gifts I purchased in their names?
You get to choose! You can notify gift recipients by email, or you can print your gift card and mail it yourself, or you can ask Agros to mail a gift card directly.

Do I have to order online?

Are the gifts I purchase tax-deductible?
Contributions to Agros International, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes -- please consult your Accountant.
